Dr. Anita Asiimwe, the Minister of State in charge of Public Health and Primary Health Care has called on Rwandans to maintain best health practices in family especially the family hygiene as a way of improving the health and livelihood in communities.
“Children are our future. We must strive to improve maternal & child health,” Dr. Asiimwe said during the launching of the ‘Mother and Child Health Week’ in Gisagara this march 11, 2014
Minister calls on children to foster the habit of hand washing and asked parents to have children sleep under treated mosquito nets to prevent malaria infections.
After Launching the MCH week, the Minister visited Kansi Health Centre located in Kansi sector Gisagara district, where residents have attained a 100 percent subscription for health insurance ( mutuelle de santé)
Asiimwe urged calls on Kansi Health Centre officials to maintain the high hygiene standards and to spread the word to the surrounding community so as to have a health community
The Minister also presided over the awards ceremony in which best community health workers from Kibilizi sector
While visiting some of the stall Community Health Worker demonstrated how they provide health services, such as using traditional methods for family planning among many services.
In a related development, Dr. Anita Asiimwe, earlier on March 6th also made inspection tour at Murunda Hospital, in Rutsiro District, where she called for high standards of hygiene and cleanliness that should be maintained in medical facilities to save patients from contracting more infections when they come for treatment.
Asiimwe said that it is unacceptable for a medical practitioner to work from a place that is hygienically wanting and also urged medics to respect and uphold work ethics- since the medical profession deals with life.
